Headers and footers

In a multiple-page document, you may want to include a header (information that appears at the top of each page) and/or a footer (information that appears at the bottom of each page).  Headers and footers in a Word document can include both text (for example, the document title or filename) and graphics (for example, a company logo).

To add a header or footer to a document:
• Click on the Header or Footer button in the Header & Footer group on the Insert tab.
• Enter the header/footer text and/or graphics, applying any necessary formatting.

• To eliminate the header/footer on the first page, click on the Page Setup dialog box launcher in the Page Layout tab and select the Different first page option in the Layout tab of the Page Setup dialog box or click on the Design tab (which appears when you edit a header or footer).  Then click on the OK button to close the dialog box.

To remove a header or footer from a document:
• Click on the Header or Footer button in the Header & Footer group on the Insert tab.

• When the drop-down menu appears, select Remove Header/Remove Footer.

Adding comments

Reviewers can enter comments into a document.  A comment can be a suggestion for a change, a question to the project leader or to another reviewer, or any other text that relates to a particular part of the document.

To insert a comment into a document:

  • Select the text that is to be associated with the comment.
  • Click on the New Comment button in the Comments group on the Review tab.
  • Type the text of the comment.  If the document is displayed in Normal view, the comment text appears in the Reviewing pane at the bottom of the Application window; if the document is displayed in either Print Layout view or Web Layout view, the comment text appears in a small balloon to the right of the document text.
