Paste Special

The Paste Special command allows users to paste only selected components of the copied cell into the destination cell.

All – Choosing this function is similar to performing a simple paste in Excel. Everything attached to the cell, including the formatting, the functions, and even the comments will be pasted in the destination cell, hence the term “All.”

Formulas – Choosing this function enables you to paste only the formula from the original cell into your target cell. Extras like formatting will not be imported.

Values – This function allows you to paste only the values or results of the function in the original cell. The original formula itself will not be imported.

Formats – This function allows you to paste only the formatting of the original cell. The contents of the original cell will not be carried over to the destination cell.

Reflection Activity
•Which paste option would be the best when pasting information from the internet? Why?

Formulas

Formulas are entries that have an equation that calculates the value to display. We DO NOT type in the numbers we are looking for; we type in the reference. The result will be updated upon the change or entry of any data that is referenced in the formula.

Auto fill

A very handy feature in Excel is Auto Fill, which allows you to automatically fill cells with preset data. If you need to add the months of the year or the days of the week to your spreadsheets, you can do so using Auto Fill.

Reflection Activity
•Explain the advantage of using cell references over actual numbers in formulas.
